Winter 2010-2011
20 February
2011 - Swell Wood RSPB

Swell Wood is a great place to sit among loads of woodland birds coming to the feeders, even if the light is poor on (another) dull day. From top: Nuthatch, Marsh Tit, Great Tit.

February 2011 - Ruishton

This Honeybee worker was
pretty cold and slow this morning, enabling me to get close enough for these
macro shots.
8 January
2011 - Ilfracombe

Happy New
Year! Above: Female Blackcap
in the perpetual Ilfracombe
semi-darkness.

December 2010 - Ilfracombe, Wildersmouth
Beach

Lots
of views of Harbour Porpoise of Wildersmouth and Cheyne Beaches today.

December 2010 - Ilfracombe

A flock of
hungry Goldfinch gleaned what they could from these Alder 'cones'.

December 2010 - Bathpool

Tons
of Redwing among the winter thrushes in Taunton, and pretty much
everywhere at the moment.

December 2010 - Taunton

Just when I
thought, 'What I really need is a fox in this snow,' there he was! And he
stayed for a few shots, just a shame it was getting dark. Ah, well, can't have
it all...a beautiful wildlife moment.

December 2010 - Ilfracombe

Snowed
in again this year but with only a thin covering of snow, enough to bring the hords of Meadow Pipits and winter thrush flocks into town. I counted over 100
Meadow Pipit on the Capstone along with Redwing, Fieldfare, Mistle
Thrush and Song Thrush (like this one).
11 December 2010 - Ilfracombe

This leucistic Sparrowhawk is the same one I
photographed at Woolacombe a few weeks ago. It has
been around Ilfracombe for the last couple of weeks
and this afternoon I had five views of it around the Torrs
Park area and also over the Landmark Theatre, always with its accompanying mob
of gulls and always in typically awful Ilfracombe
light. Also: 3 Black Redstarts at junction of Granville Road and Torrs Park, one male.
5 December 2010 - Ilfracombe

In one day,
two of the most beautiful European birds. Top: A lone Waxwing on the Torrs; Lower: Kingfisher,
wintering in Ilfracombe harbour.
