The Lark at Lulworth Cove
Chance the wind,
brave spirit, fly!
Dance the breeze,
the world is shy.
Passers-by, they hear you
and see you as you
rise.
But only I can know you –
your song betrays my
eyes.
You hide your melody, singer,
your beautiful,
haunting tune.
But I have heard your message
in a heart that
sings too soon.
“Complicate the ocean,
by eloping at Her
edge –
you’ll lose her first
emotion
before she makes her
pledge.
“Withhold your fears,
brave searcher, try
to shed no tears –
my spirit will
die.”
