Abyssal Plain
Below the light, beyond the darkness,
where the only
lifeblood
rains with patient
regularity,
inexorable and essential,
a thread of life
survives.
Determined, Gaia strives
to exploit Her
greatest wilderness
with a host of
unknown forms,
alien to all above,
bewitched.
But ignorance of the surface
is not held in
faith,
feeling the life force
of freedom
supplied in shifting
showers from above.
Stirring, moving, life defies
the probing eyes of
man
here limited beyond
his means;
for man believes
leviathan is here,
but its closest
living spirit
sails deeply through
the mile above.
A romantic legend remains,
eternal in the veil of
darkness
and unknowing.
Safe in times far distant –
the forgotten
place.
