Nature Photo Diary

6 May 2012 - Quantock Hills

Some classic Quantocks wildlfe: Red Deer hinds, Pied Flycatcher male, Tree Pipit and Common Lizards.

10 April 2012 - CVL

The long-staying Spotted Sandpiper at Chew - now beginning to show some spots. I was really close but the light was totally against me - and I daren't move in case of flushing it. Ah, well, at least I got a good view.

7 April 2012 - Portland

The traditional early spring trip to Portland although lacking in rarities, was rewarded with plenty of views of nice birds. From top: adult males of Northern WheatearRedstart,  Willow Warbler and Skylark. The Dunnock was too close and nicely lit to resist and is my best shot of this ubiquitous bird.

7 April 2012 - Lodmoor RSPB, Weymouth

Just popped in for a quick look at the male Garganey.

23 March 2012 - Meare Heath

Two Long-billed Dowitchers at Shapwick NNR this week. Showing nicely in the sun. There's a Black-tailed Godwit in the picture below as well - you can tell which one it is because it's not a LBD.

About me...

I am a birdwatcher, biology teacher and father of two living in Taunton, Somerset, United Kingdom.

I occasionally get the chance to go out with my camera to photograph local wildlife or stuff I see when I'm on holiday with the family. Some of the results of this are just about good enough to show other people, hence this website. In addition to the occasional good shot, I also aim to share as many wildlife experiences as possible. As such, I also post record shots and, to keep the site ticking over, photos which give a feel for the realities of wildlife watching.
