30 June 2009 - Heddon Valley
I came back here to try to photograph dipper, but was overwhelmed by the butterflies here, such as this, one of many, stunning silver-washed fritillary...

21 June 2009 - River Heddon
A Fathers' Day walk to Heddon's Mouth was packed with wildlife, not least a few small pearl-bordered fritillary...

And quite a few dipper including this adult that was busy feeding at least 2 fledglings...

I am really pleased with the optical quality of this image - it shows how good the Canon lens is - this bird was 30+yds away and the light beneath the trees was pretty poor (shutter speed 1/125). A shame the bird wouldn't turn round! I tried for about 20 mins to get better posed shots but no luck this time.
20 June 2009 - Lee Bay

It's not often you go on a walk and fail to see something interesting but today I was getting worried, until I spotted this oystercatcher suspiciously sitting on a cliff ledge. Soon my suspicions were confirmed...

And there was me thinking they nested in fields and scrapes - not sure what the chicks will feed on. This ledge is about 60ft above the sea and 8ft below the nearest grassy turf!
And how about these common-spotted orchids that have no spots on the leaves?

I am a birdwatcher, biology teacher and father of two living in Ilfracombe, North Devon, United Kingdom.
I occasionally get the chance to go out with my camera to photograph local wildlife or stuff I see when I'm on holiday with the family. Some of the results of this are just about good enough to show other people, hence this website. I am still learning and have only mediochre kit so please forgive the occasional lapse!
